Holland Area Arts Council 150 E 8th St Holland, MI 49423 http://www.hollandarts.org phone: 616.396.3278 42.790163, -86.100743

Create Pinwheels for Peace! The Arts Council will be joining an international movement making pinwheels for International Day of Peace.
Come join us for this free workshop. Students will create pinwheels of all shapes and sizes. As part of the creation process, the students will write their thoughts about “war and peace, tolerance, living in harmony with others” on one side. The writing can be poetry, prose, haiku, or essay-style – whatever writing form is appropriate as folks express themselves. On the other side, the students will draw, paint, collage, etc. to visually express their feelings. Then we’ll assemble these pinwheels and in recognition of International Day of Peace, Sept. 20, 2008, everyone will “plant” their pinwheels outside at the Arts Council’s garden, as a public statement and art exhibit/installation. The spinning of the pinwheels in the wind will spread thoughts and feelings about peace throughout the country, the world!

Taylor 2 Dance

Friday, September 05, 2008, 7:30 PM

Knickerbocker Theatre 86 East 8th Street Holland, MI 49423 http://www.hope.edu/arts phone: 616.395.7403 42.790191, -86.103188

Legendary choreographer Paul Taylor established Taylor 2 in 1993 to ensure that his works could be seen by audiences all over the world. Taylor looked back to the 1954 origins of the Paul Taylor Dance Company for the structure of his new company: six professionals with a particular gift for his style who perform his work throughout the world.

“The New York Times” praised a recent performance by the group, saying “the performance would have been impressive enough… but the dancers’ aplomb and artistry were even more remarkable.”

The range of the dancers will be highlighted at Hope College when they perform different programs each night.

Admission: 17 for adults, $12 for senior citizens, and $6 for children 18 and under.

Organized by: Hope College
